    Job Description

    SUMMER CAMP TRANSPORTATION ASSISTANT 

     

    GENERAL: Assists the Director of Transportation, transportation mechanic, and drivers to see that every bus, van and trailer leaves clean inside and out and in roadworthy condition and is checked or restored to that condition upon return. This is a part-time job with a combination of tight schedules and then days off.  Some late afternoons, weekends required. 

    INTERIOR CLEANING - Buses 

    • Trash removed and put in dumpster 

    • Floor swept, mopped if necessary  

    • Driver’s area and interior windshield cleaned 

    • Pressure wash as needed and clean windshield 

    INTERIOR CLEANING - Vans 

    • Trash removed and put in dumpster 

    • “Lost & Found” items turned in 

    • Floor vacuumed, hand washed if necessary 

    • Wipe down dashboard and interior of windshield as necessary 

    • Pressure wash as neededclean windshield 

    EXTERIOR CLEANING – TRAILERS 

    • Frequent pressure washing necessary, especially if muddy roads, otherwise wipe clean all lights. 

    EXTERIOR CLEANING BUSES & VANS 

    • Pressure wash vehicle and windows. Buses will require scrubbing with HD Detergent, especially rear end. Wash windshield with glass cleaner.  

    PRE-TRIP INSPECTION – BUSES 

    Check and replenish or report as indicated: 

    • Fluid levels: fuel, oil, coolant, report if fuel not full. 

    • Lightshead, tail, turn, markers 

    • Horn, wipers including washer fluid 

    • Tires: check pressure of all tires, note any unusual wear 

    • Supplies: spare oil, coolant, garbage bags, paper towels, tool kit, jack, canoe straps 

    PRE-TRIP INSPECTION – VANS 

    • Check and refill all fluids as necessary 

    • Check and maintain tool kit and canoe straps 

    HOOKING UP TRAILERS TO BUSES & VANS 

    • Using the master trip list, see that the correct trailer is hooked up to each vehicle before 3 PM the day before the trip.  

    PRE & POST TRIP INSPECTION – TRAILERS 

    Check the following and report problems: 

    • Tires: check inflation, observe any unusual tire wear and report 

    • Air springs: check inflation, bring to specified pressure 

    • Lights: check all lights and report any missing or not working 

    • Cable connector: clean any dirt in contacts, inspect for wear 

    • Trailer coupler: inspect, clean, adjust, lubricate as necessary 

    • Trailer safety chains: inspect and report broken, road-worn, missing
